Tuesday November 29th's Learning Log
Homework:
1.QAR questions.
2.Study for geography test on Friday.
3.Finish paragraphs if you haven't already.
4.Finish package on taking notes if you haven't already.
What We Did:
1.Paragraphs catch up.
2.Catch up for note taking package.
3.QAR(Question-Answer Relationships) package.
4.Taking notes on "Pathways" textbook.
5.Spelling checks.
Learning Intentions:
Paragraph catch up - Let the people that didn't finish the various paragraphs finish them.
Catch up for note taking package - Let the people that didn't finish the package finish it.
QAR package - In this package, we read an article on monarch butterflies and we had to assess several questions for what types they were and we also had to answer them. This package also allows us to understand the types of questions there are. RT(Right There) questions are found in the text almost exactly like the question, the response will be on the literal level. T&S(Think and Search) questions require integration on several parts of the text, these questions require inferential thinking skills. A&Y(Author and You) questions require the information given in the text combined with your own knowledge. OYO(On Your Own) questions will be answered from your own knowledge and experience, you will give your opinion and and reach beyond the text, these questions ask you to apply the information in your own context.
Taking notes on "Pathways" textbook - This exercise allows us to practice for the different types of note taking. There was a part on the history of the Mediterranean World, also parts on the world's major religions. We will have time to do this on the double block Thursday.
Spelling checks - Since the spelling test is coming up in the following weeks, we are practicing for the test. Be sure to study at home so you won't do bad on the test.
Study for geography test - A major geography test is coming up on Friday so study for it. Hopefully everybody has taken their geography package home.
Hopefully This Learning Log Helped Whoever Needs It. If You Have Any Questions Or Comments, Please Feel Free To Do So.
Next Person To Do The Learning Log Is David.

Today's Learning Log
Today in humanities we worked on Persuasive Paragraphs. We talked about how persuasive paragraphs argue a point, try to convince the reader to think a certain way, and to give supporting reasons.
We also received a booklet consisting of about five pages that explaines what we do, why we do it, and how we can improve. For example, we are writing outlines before we write out paragraphs, this booklet shows us hints in how to improve our outlines.
Learning Intention:
We did persuasive paragraphs because we are working on improving our paragraphs. The last couple of classes we worked on narrative, explanatory, and descriptive paragraphs. Today we did persuasive paragraphs and are learning the differences between each of them. We do exercises for every type of paragraph and these exercises help us understand more about them. The booklet that we received explains what to do better and what to fix.
Marvy:
I understand the difference between paragraphs and how to recognize each one. I can come up with ideas quickly and can write a paragraph fast and well. The booklet shows me what to improve on and by following the booklet makes my work better.
Connections beyond english:
If you are in a debate club or are writting a letter about something to the governtment, you can use key words to show what you mean to persuade the reader to look from your point of view. If you write a persuasive paragraph and follow the right criteria in expressing your thoughts you might change the readers attitude and may win the argument.
Homework:
Finish 4. Persuasive Paragraph page. Underline the topic sentance and highlight the key words in the example. Do exercise 1 double spaced on line piece of paper and exercise 2 double spaced on line paper. Before exercise 2, do an outline for it. In the booklet read and do all five pages.
All homework is due tomorrow.
Note: Sorry for posting late, I had outside activities.
Next person posting is........Mark!

What we did today:
Today in humanities we focused on catch up and had some people who had finished all of there work to sit next to someone who didn’t and could had used a bit of help getting it done. We had to have a narrative draft paragraph done our heart map done which is a map describing points about our memory’s, we also had to do a descriptive paragraph which was assignment two and to choose a topic to add detailed sentences too for exercise one. What everyone who was done all of these assignments had to write out and outline for our explanatory paragraph and a draft.
Explanatory Paragraph- gives information, express one idea in detail, must be accurate detailed specific and organized in the right sequence
Narrative Paragraph- tells a series of related events in a story
Descriptive Paragraph- paints a picture; the purpose is to give the reader specific details to describe a particular person or place or thing
Learning Intention:
We worked on catching up on all of our paragraphs this is because we can have them all done for when we review them so we can understand what we need to change before we do another one of the same type. And we are learning about all of these different types of paragraphs because these are the main paragraphs most of us will be using. Using the outlines gives us an idea if we have everything connected well before we start so that we do not have to change the whole paragraph when its too late and have handed them in. You could check the outline with Mrs. Lees just to make sure you have the right idea and if there was anything more you would need to include.
Marvy
I understand how to make a descriptive paragraph with descriptive words such as colors sent touch taste and what you hear like for example “The blue rusted engine sounded like the burning of old worn rubber on the old gravel road” or for taste “I could taste the filth of the old fur coat rubbing slightly against my face”
Connections beyond English:
With knowing how to do a proper paragraph you can excel in life quickly. You can use paragraph writing in so many different ways such as racemes showing them your information and adding on a piece of your well written information. You can also by correcting these paragraphs and using outlines to lets say for example when planning a new bedroom for your brother you would want to make a plan before you start. And have it approved by someone who may know a bit more about building and decorating. You would want to do this so you can change something before you start that you may have glanced over and missed but may had wrecked the whole room. Like your measurements were wrong on the closet size since it will cut off the size of the bathroom. And then not have room for the brand new toilet.
Tips:
1.Check out Mrs. Lees blog today to find out the details about the geography test
2. There is words on the very back of the last page in the paragraph booklet saying words that will help you connect time order, place order and relationship between ideas
3. Look up some words in your thesaurus and change a few around to make your paragraphs bit more interesting and adventurous
4. If you like to type out your drafts and edit them that way go to word and in review click track changes and you will then be able to know what you have changed and use it as a draft before you do a good copy
Homework:
- 1 Narrative paragraph, double spaced separate sheet of paper
- Exercise 1 on descriptive paragraphs double spaced separate sheet of paper
- Exercise 2 on descriptive paragraphs double spaced separate sheet of paper
- Outline on Descriptive Paragraph separate piece of paper
- Exercise 1 on explanatory paragraphs double spaced separate sheet of paper
- Study for geography test
Lineup:
The next person to be posting is Arthur on Monday so we all move down a day so I will be off next week and then if you were on Thursday you would get Friday this coming week.

November 24th Learning Log
What Did We Do?
During double block today, we started off the day by finishing off some work we didn’t complete. The work we were able to choose from was: Portfolios, geography (South America) and exercise 1 for descriptive paragraphs if we were here on Tuesday. After, Ms. Lees explained to the people who weren’t here Tuesday what the others did during that day and how to do it. The people who didn’t come Tuesday had to play “catch up” and write a narrative paragraph (homework on Tuesday) and exercise 1 + exercise 2 for descriptive paragraphs (Today’s homework). After Ms. Lees showed us some examples of reading logs and taught us more about “critiquing” a person’s work on blogs without being rude. Ms. Lees also gave our class some time to work on humanities homework.
Learning Intentions
The learning intention for reviewing or teaching us about narrative/ descriptive paragraphs is to let us be able to write a proper paragraph because it will always be with you throughout your life and you will need to know it to apply for any job. The learning intention for reviewing and critiquing the blogs is to let us know the expectations of doing a learning log and the expectations as the reader. For example, your tone when you are commenting on a post.
My reflections/Connections
Marvy – I can explain the difference between a narrative and descriptive paragraph. Narrative paragraphs are used to tell a series of related events and can be used to tell an incident. Descriptive paragraphs are used to describe a particular person or place in detail. They may include the five human senses.
Being able to write an effective paragraph can help you a lot throughout your life because later on, you will need it to apply for jobs or other things that you want to achieve.
Homework and tips
- 1 narrative paragraph double spaced if you didn’t do it already. (Can use topics from heart map)
- Descriptive paragraph exercise one and two (For exercise two, you must do a paragraph plan before you start. Example in booklet page 7. May choose topic from heart map)
- Do all homework on separate sheet a paper with date, title and name on it.
- If you are not done your portfolio, there is flex tomorrow at lunch
- If you can’t post your learning log on your day, contact other members of your groups for help
